Our Editorial Standards and Process

Julie creates content that’s not only medically accurate, but judgment-free.

Our goal is to help people make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health — sans any shame, confusion, or fear. We want to meet readers where they are, answer the questions they actually have, and offer accurate, medically-vetted information that feels like it’s coming from a trusted friend and not a lecture.

Our editorial standards exist to ensure everything we publish is reliable, inclusive, and aligned with our mission to redefine how emergency contraception and sexual health are talked about in and out of the doctor’s office.

Our mission

Julie wants to keep young women in the driver’s seat of their own stories and provide them with the tools necessary for a happy, healthy sex life.

We know (and have lived!) through the ups and downs of young adulthood firsthand, and we aim to normalize the events, conversations, and questions that come during this period to help destigmatize sexual health.

We believe women should live life with total freedom — starting with their ability to choose how, when, and if they become pregnant.

Our integrity and ethics

All content is grounded in current, reputable research and reviewed by qualified medical experts. Julie does not publish content based on opinion, rumors, or unverified claims. We rely on:

  • Peer-reviewed studies
  • Medical organizations (ie. ACOG, CDC, WHO)
  • Board-certified healthcare professionals

Our medical review process

Every Julie article is:

  • Researched and written by experts in sexual and reproductive health
  • Reviewed for accuracy by doctors with different expertise from Julie’s Medical Advisory Board (read more about them here)
  • Checked for clarity and tone to ensure it aligns with Julie’s voice

Our commitment to transparency

We clearly cite sources within the article or list them at the end so readers can verify information themselves.

We also clearly distinguish:

  • Medical facts vs. unfounded claims
  • General educational content vs. medical guidance
  • Personal experiences or cultural insights

What our content is (and isn’t)

Our content is:

  • General educational information
  • Designed for easy understanding

Our content is not:

  • A substitute for professional medical advice
  • A diagnosis or treatment plan
  • Personalized medical guidance

We always encourage readers to speak with a healthcare provider for individual concerns.

Our commitment to accuracy and ongoing updates

As conversations around sexual and reproductive health evolve, so will our editorial standards.

We’re committed to:

  • Routinely reviewing and updating existing articles
  • Staying up to date with the latest medical research
  • Listening to our community
  • Reducing stigma through education
  • Keeping our content honest, human, and supportive

We’re always improving, and we want to hear from you. If you spot an error, have a concern, or want to suggest a topic, you can reach us at support@juliecare.co.
